Viorel Gabriel Chitu filed Romanian patent application a 2026 00076 on February 16, 2026 for a modular sailing drone designed to carry underwater drones and USV minidrones. The later MaritimeXDrone portfolio positions the concept for defensive maritime and border missions.

Romanian Naval Forces unmanned-systems force structure: Programme announcement in Romania

Romanian Fleet commander Rear Adm. Cornel Cojocaru said the special unmanned-systems division created in 2025 would undergo a substantial operationalization process during 2026 and included surface, air and anti-submarine capabilities. He also said a drone division would be established at the River Flotilla during 2026.

PESCO Maritime (semi-) Autonomous Systems for Mine Countermeasures, MAS: Programme announcement in Romania

Rear Adm. Marcel Neculae stated that the Romanian Naval Forces planned to modernize mine-countermeasure platforms with autonomous drones through the PESCO MAS MCM project. PESCO confirms Romania as a project member and defines the program as combining semi-autonomous underwater, surface and aerial technologies for maritime mine countermeasures.

ASMINES / PSCD-I-2023-91: Romania exhibition or demonstration

At BSDA 2026, the Mircea cel Bătrân Naval Academy exhibited ASMINES, which Romanian defense reporting identified as a surface naval drone project developed with economic partners. Autonomous Flight Technology R&D participated in Romanian Navy OPEX 26 with the Romanian-developed Squallus autonomous maritime system. The official Navy source validates the military operational-experimentation exercise, while company and independent evidence identify Squallus and connect it to the ASMINES multi-vehicle mine-countermeasure concept.

Danish Saildrone Baltic operational trial: Denmark test and trial record

Saildrone reported that four Voyager USVs had completed approximately six months of continuous Danish Baltic operations by February 2026. The vessels had sailed more than 20,000 nautical miles while collecting persistent maritime-domain-awareness information for DALO and the Royal Danish Navy.

X-WAVE sensor and navigation integration: Product enhancement in Denmark
